Good Morning!!!  Your children stayed focused during their ISAT testing and tried to do their best!!!  What more can we ask?  Thanks for all your support and help!!!  I hope you have heard, “The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.”  I couldn’t do it without you!!!

And, speaking of that…Festival is this Thursday evening!!!  From 5:30-8:30 our class will be running a “Bean Bag Toss” game.  I need parents to help run it!!!  I have about 5 or 6 students signed up, but need more!!  Please see if your child can work an hour.  I also need three parents, one per hour to help monitor the booth and work with the kids.  I will be selling Logo all night, right next to our booth-so I will be there.  Please write a note in the passport or let me know what shift you can work!!  :30-6:30, 6:30-7:30 or 7:30-8:30.  Thanks!

Language Arts/Social Studies:  With the ISAT’s over the last few weeks, our social studies has taken the back seat.  So, this week for language arts, we will be reading and working in our Social Studies Books.  We will probably get through the Northeast and complete all that we missed in that region.  We have also started to discuss the Southeast Region of our country, and might continue with that by the end of the week.  We will be reading, working in the workbook and doing some map making all week!!

Math:  Unit 7 has been completed, but didn’t want to add one more test to the testing that was already going on.  We will review, once again, today.  We have gone over the information in this unit many times.   I will give the test tomorrow.  They will take home their Math Journal 2 tonight for review.  The test is on Fractions and their Uses and Chance and Probability.  There is also 2-digit multiplication and a few division problems on the test.  Again, we will review today in class.

Homework:  Tonight, study for the test.  Tuesday and Wednesday- Lessons 8.1 and 8.2  No homework Thursday because of Ray Festival!!!

Science:  We are growing plants in our room and your children seem really excited about watching the plants sprout and grow!!!  We will continue to grow more plants and even grow our own snacks (we will sprout some seeds to eat) after spring break!!!

Here’s wishing you a nice week and a happy Spring Break!!!

Jean Clement

P.S.  Again, please let me know if you can work this Thursday Evening for Festival at our Booth!!!  We will be located first floor, right across from room 102.  Many thanks!

March 11, 2013 Weekly Overview

Hello-from Wednesday…

I know you heard from your child that they took the Science ISAT on Monday.  The schedule was changed.  Please reiterate to them, that they are learning to handle change while still doing their best…and sorry for lack of notice!!  We will be going to Alvin Ailey tomorrow, no testing in the afternoon (the first science is already completed.)  Your child should bring a lunch from home.  We will leave Ray about 9:45, the show is from 11:00-12:00.  We will return to Ray about 1:00 and eat lunch then.  Please talk with your child about appropriate bus behavior and their behavior while attending this wonderful dance performance!!  I think we are all excited!!!  Thanks.

The last ISAT will be this Friday-the second science test.  If your child has missed an ISAT test, no problem-there will be make up days.  I’ll let you know when the schedule is out.

We will have a small end-of-ISAT celebration for our great focus and work!!!  We will make popcorn and celebrate with some fun activities Friday afternoon!!

Again, the only homework this week is at least 30 minutes of reading each evening.

FESTIVAL- Next Thursday from 5:30-8:30.  I need your help!!  I will be selling Ray logo all night and also want to have a classroom bean bag toss game!!  Your children have signed up to work-I have at least 4 students each hour.  I need at least three parents to help room the booth.  One hour shifts from 5:30-8:30.  Please write in your child’s passport or on a sheet of paper if you can be by the booth-the students from our room will really run it, but I need a parent to supervise!!!  many thanks!!!

Your children are wonderful and thank you for all your help and commitment in helping them to be the best that they can be!!!

Have a great rest of the week.  Jean Clement

March 4, 2013

Happy March!!  We will welcome in the new month with a lot of planting, growing our own seeds for snack, and watching spring arrive!!!  We are mostly wearing Green today for Spirit Day!!!!  Thanks!!!

And…take the ISAT’s…We will start tomorrow.  Thanks for the pencils, gum and snacks that have come in!!!  We could still use more!!!  We can always use more #2 pencils!!! Thanks.  Your children will do fine.  Plenty of rest, reading good books,  and good healthy food will only help!!!  The only homework your child will have these next two weeks is reading each night.  Maybe as an extra treat you can also read to them!!!  Again, thanks for all your help-we are all in this together. 🙂

Field Trip on March 14th to see Alvin Ailey!!!!  I am so excited that we have this opportunity!!!  The money is overdue, so I need it no later than tomorrow!!!  Thanks.  At least a note, if you will be turning it in a little later.  Thanks.

Each day in the afternoon, we will do something special-your children came up with suggestions, to help ease the stress of testing….but we will keep some comfortable routines, too.

Language Arts:  I will go back to using the structure of the Journeys target skills, but we will not be taking a test the next two Fridays.  We will read the stories, focus on the vocabulary and target skills, and keep some familiar structure in the afternoons.

Math:  We will complete lessons 7.9-7.12 this week.  Our focus will be on fractions and decimals and probability.  We have a fun cube-drop experiment that we will experiment with both Thursday and Friday.

Science:  Our focus this week will be Earth Sciences.  Ask your child what we are learning about.

Social Studies:  The Northwest:  landscape, resources, people and culture.

Have a good week.  Thanks Jean Clement
