February 23 to 27

Here we go…into the last week of February 2015! Time seems to be flying by!

Kids this week will explore the world of balance and motion in science.
In math we will focus on doubling numbers, addition practice, and measurement.
In Reading we are investigating how verbs interact with pronouns and we will learn about the log i spelled igh.

Please consider contributing snacks and Warrior Store items….these are always appreciated

Our next field trip is March 18th to the Shedd Aquarium. There will be no fee for this trip.

This weeks assignments:
Tuesday: Read, Math Link,Choose writing prompt and write a draft
Wednesday: Read, Math Link, Revise your writing
Thursday: Read, Math Link, Edit your writing
Friday: Read, Math Link, Submit your writing to the teacher

Writing Choices:
Choice 1: Pretend you have invented a machine that helps people get in shape. Write an ad for your machine. Tell how it works and why it is special.
Choice 2: Write instructions for a game or exercise that will help keep your body strong and healthy. Be sure to write each step.

February 16 to 20

No school Monday. Please note how that impacts writing assignments for the week.

In Math we begin a new unit on fractions.

In Language Arts kids will practice pronouns, ed and ing endings, story structure, and how to name yourself last in speaking and writing.

Writing Choices:
Choice 1: A Story about Me: Think of a friend you visited in their house or apartment. Write a story about your visit. Tell why it was fun or exciting.
Choice 2: If you could live anywhere where would you live? Would you live in a castle. on a houseboat or in an igloo? Write about your dream home. What does it look like? What is special about it?

This week students continue to work on unit 6 in Math.  This includes graphing, subtraction, addition, and stories with multiples.

In Language Arts students will cover compound words, proper nouns, cause and effect, abbreviations and dictionary use in their reading and writing.

Please contribute small toy items from Oriental Trading or Toys Inc to our Warrior store.

Writing Choices:
Choice 1: Pretend you live on another planet.  Write a letter to someone who lives on Earth.  Tell your pen pal about the food, clothes, homes and schools on your planet.
Choice 2: A Poem:  Write a poem about a baby animal.  You might write about a baby animal you had as a pet.  You might write about a baby animal you saw at the zoo or in a pet store.
