April 27 to May 1

This week we are going to see a Rock and Roll Version of Alice in Wonderland. If you have still not turned in your permission slip and fee please do so right away.

We are working on “sequence of events” in a story this week.
In math students are reviewing coins. Please help them by often offering to count a set of mixed coins in addition to their regular home assignments this week.
We are continuing to look at life cycles of insects and plants in science. Please help your child finish their insect research project.

Please remember that we are always looking for contributions to our Warrior store (Oriental Trading and Brody’s are good places for items)

Please also, consider contributing a snack. Thanks to Jordan and Andres, Nicholas, Aden’s and Ofie’s families for the recent snacks.

Writing Choices:
Choice 1: A story about me: Write a story about a time when you had a problem and a friend helped you.
Choice 2: Playmates: Do you have a best friend? Write a play (script) about two people who are best friends. Tell about some things that they do together.

April 20 to 24

Thank you to everyone who made report card pick up conferences a success. It was so nice to meet with all of you.

Remember we have a field trip coming up. All field trips are a required part of our curriculum. We create learning opportunities that reach beyond the event and expect rich language development opportunities through these experiences. Please let us know right away if your child cannot attend for some reason.

In all of the second grade rooms we will finish up the balance and motion unit and move on to a life cycle unit in science.

We are learning about suffixes y, ly and ful in Language arts this week.

We are completing a unit on measurement in Math.

Choice 1: A Speech: Pretend you are a famous sports star. Write a thank-you speech for a prize you have won. Tell about yourself and your sport.
Choice 2: A Sports Report: Pretend you are the schools sports reporter. Write about a big game that took place this week.

April 13 to 17

Report Card Conferences are this Thursday.

This week students will complete a book report (Due Friday) instead of the reading contract. Pizza Hut Book-It program is officially over.

Choice 1: “Jack and the Beanstalk” is a story about a boy who climbs a huge vine. Pretend you have grown a giant plant. Write a story about you and your plant.
Choice 2: Instructions: Pretend you are teaching someone to plant a flower. Write sentences that tell what to do. Remember to write the steps in order.
